to expose your midriff when it's -20 degrees

This blog entry is being written specifically for a very good friend who recently did a lot of things to help me out. She asked me to make this topic my next rant, so I am happily obliging.

In most parts of Canada (and the rest of the world) winter is cold. Very cold. Like negative temperatures cold. Snow, ice, harsh winds, are all wonderful things that winter has to offer. However, I have no intention of talking about how much I dislike winter instead I am going to talk about those not so few individuals that pretend it doesn't exist.

What does a normal person do when it's cold? They put on clothing to keep themselves warm like sweaters, hats, scarfs, boots and coats. You also usually try to cover as much of yourself as possible before going outside so as not to get things like frost bite or sick. Again, this is what a normal person does.

So what about those girls that wear these tiny little jackets that stop in the middle of their torso and leave their midriffs bare? Not showing a sweater, but actually skin bare? What's wrong with them? And it's not like you could say "oh, that person is just crazy". No, there are tons of them everywhere. Do they like being cold? Do they feel they are personally challenging the wrath that is winter? I don't know. Maybe they think they look good or what they perceive looking good to be. But I can't remember when red, frost bitten skin was ever considered attractive. If you're really that obsessed with looking good, there is "stylish" winter attire that one can pay too much for and still look the way societal norms dictate you should.

All sarcasm aside, the people that do this are usually teenage girls and they probably do it because they want to look sexy or cool or whatever. I remember being a teenager and big bulky, warm clothes wasn't cool than either. And let's face it, teenagers are idiots. They are just the most ridiculous things walking the earth and should be locked up until they are at least 18 and somewhat capable of functioning like a human being. But that being said, where are the parents in this equation? How does a sane, caring adult let their child go out like that? Maybe I just answered my own question. Clearly there is some serious neglect going on at home if a teenager even has access to this type of attire during the winter season.

  1. I agree! Like the kid who was a BOY and wore his short jacket with his whole behind sticking out in the open, only covered by boxer shorts! (His jeans were worn on his thighs). He actually went tubing like this! He had to put his behind in the middle of a tube...I don't want to know what color it was after being exposed like that in -30 degree weather!
